With many free and low cost activities offered each week there is something for everyone whether you are young or young at heart. The City of Temecula has lined up some great events throughout the summer. To see the complete list and get all the details, log on to www.cityoftemecula.org. The days are hot but the nights are hotter with the 2011 Summer Sunsets Concert Series at the Temecula Amphitheater. Concerts are scheduled every Thursday night till August 11. Enjoy a movie under the stars at one of several parks throughout Temecula at Moonlight Movies in the Park. Dress everyone warm because the evenings can get cool. Pack a picnic dinner or take advantage of dinner deals offered at certain venues. Mondays just got better with FAM (Family Activities on Mondays) at the Temecula Community Recreation Center. This is free to everyone and is fun for the whole family. Past events have included learning to make fizzy lemonade, tie-dying t-shirts, experimenting with magic sand, and making "superballs." More FAM nights are scheduled through August 1. Love to shop? Hot Summer Nights features live music on the main thoroughfare in Old Town. Stores stay open late and bands play on street corners while street magicians mystify the crowd until 10:00 p.m. every Friday night. Enjoy the fun and family entertainment through September 2. July is Parks and Recreation Month. So take advantage of the great weather and visit several of the more than 30 parks in the Temecula area. Many have hiking trails, play equipment and barbeque facilities. For those who enjoy outdoor activities head over to Lake Skinner. The park is just 10 miles northeast of Temecula and is a great place to enjoy camping, hiking and fishing. Boat rentals are offered for a fee. The majority of camp sites have full hookups and a picnic bench and fire ring. Also open for day use, the park has shade shelters and picnic benches available. The new Splash Pad water playground is the perfect way to cool down during the summer heat. Don't forget your sunscreen. In the evenings enjoy entertainment in the new amphitheater. Activities are currently planned through September 10. Check the schedule at www.rivcoparks.org to get more information and to make your reservations. Have a great summer and remember to be safe!
